Post Office Celebrates Hispanic Heritage with Four Stamps Latinos in the U.S. will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 to October 15. Congress made Hispanic Heritage Month official in 1988 to celebrate the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries – Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. To mark this event, the U.S. Post Office is issuing four stamps featuring dances that trace their roots to the Caribbean islands. The “Let’s Dance/Bailemos” stamps honor the contributions of Latin American art and dance to American culture. The four Latin American artists, who created the stamps, never saw the other’s work. But the four images are similar in style. The art captures the excitement of dancers moving to the beat of the salsa, merengue, mambo, and cha-cha. The stamps went on sale September 17.
