Questions Surround Packers as They Lose First Four Games

The bad news is the Green Bay Packers lost their first four games. The good news is they beat the New Orleans Saints 52-3 in week five.

Still, things are not looking good for Green Bay.

First, the team has a number of injured players. Star wide receiver Javon Walker will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. Backup running back Najeh Davenport is also out for the year with a foot injury. Running back Ahman Green, tight end Bubba Franks, and several offensive linemen have also been hurt.

The team's defense has also played poorly.

Some have criticized head coach Mike Sherman, the running game, and quarterback Brett Favre. Favre, now 36 years old, almost retired following last season. He started slowly this year, but played well in the 49-point victory over the Saints.

Biggest win in 38 years

The win was Green Bay's biggest in 38 years.

“I was getting concerned,” Favre told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “If we don't turn this around eventually it just becomes talk. “But I don't know what is going to happen the rest of the season.”

The rest of the season will be difficult. Green Bay will play four of the best teams in football – Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Philadelphia — by the end of November.

However, the Packers have a chance to win the NFC North Division title. Many think the division is one of the worst in football.

And here is another bit of good news: Green Bay also started the 2004 season 1-4. The Packers ended up winning the division championship.

“Last year when we were 1-4, we stuck together,” offensive lineman Mark Tauscher said. “Everybody was trying to pull it apart and that was well deserved. When you are struggling, people are going to attack you.”
