Beat The Drum: KB’s 60th Fourth of July Parade Coming Up

More than 300 people gathered for lively music, Shorty’s BBQ, and cold beer to support Key Biscayne’s annual Fourth of July Parade, which is set to stroll down Crandon Boulevard for the 60th time this Independence Day.

“Our theme is 60 parades in paradise,” said Parade Committee President Rafael Momene.

The iconic event usually involves 55 to 60 floats, including bagpipes, stilt-walkers, marching bands, and is capped with a cookout on the Village Green hosted by the Rotary Club. It starts with a jet flyover and often attracts many local elected leaders and candidates for office.

Momene says many attendees  wrongly think the event is run by the Village government, when in fact it relies on donations, with only a financial  assist from the Village.
