Miami-Dade mayoral Candidate Daniella Levine Cava hit the wine and cheese circuit in Key Biscayne last week, raising funds in what ‘s expected to be a crowded field for the top elected position in the County.  Levine-Cava met with supporters at the home of former Council Member Patrica Woodson. Incumbent Mayor Carlos Gimenez is term-limited.

At the gathering, Levine-Cava talked about some of her priorities, including the environment, traffic, affordable housing, and a better relationship between the County and the three dozen municipalities in the County, including Key Biscayne. “Cities are not given their due by the County,” she said. She  was careful to remind the island crowd that she opposed the boat show’s move to Virginia Key.

Florida Politics reported that Levine-Cava raised $200,000 last month, bringing her total to over $1 million for the Nov. 2020 contest. Declared candidates include former State Rep. Juan Zapata and newcomer Monique Nicole Barley. Among the list of politicians expected to run, according to published reports, are former Mayor Alex Penalas, District 7 Commissioner Xavier Suarez, who represents Key Biscayne, former Congressman Carlos Curbelo, former Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera, and Commissioner Esteban Bovo.
