What’s Closing Key Biscayne Beaches?

Seaweed on Key Biscayne beaches this summer (Key News/Annali Hayward)

It’s not the Virginia Key sewage treatment plant but seaweed, says a January 2 report in the Miami Herald. Key Biscayne, which maintains its own beaches, has been burying most of the sargasssum to get it off the beach, but the seaweed has been linked to bacteria production. Mayor Mike Davey told the Herald that the Village is talking to the City of Miami about composting the seaweed instead.
