People were still scrambling on social media at the last minute Saturday to score tickets to the Love by the Moon Party at the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park.

Those who did have tickets arrived under cloud cover, but before the evening was over the Snow Moon made its appearance. The magic, which had been promised, began as soon as guests received their souvenir reusable stainless cups and walked up the fairy-lit pathway to the lighthouse and keeper’s cottage.

The Jammers 305, a drum circle jam, set an island mood at the base of the lighthouse on which an image of a lighthouse seal was projected. Almost immediately offers of unlimited food (ceviche on tiny wooden spoons) and drink (rum punch) began. The clearing near the keeper’s house was transformed into an outdoor food hall, with samples of Cuban roast pig from Boater’s Grill, pasta from Tutto Pizza & Pasta, bite-size hors d’oeuvres from the Rusty Pelican and much, much more.

The food and drink stalls spilled out onto the sandy area near the seawall where a bonfire blazed and Remyz, the funk/blues fusion band, rocked away. Pizza was served straight from a mobile oven, and rosé wine was poured from magnums. Guests also had the choice of a beer tent, a bar serving a variety of spirits and soft drinks.

Proceeds from the Friends of Cape Florida event will go towards improvements in the cottage and lighthouse grounds.
