PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: COVID-19 – YOUR MONDAY MORNING UPDATE

An Update from the Village of Key Biscayne

An Update from the Village of Key Biscayne

Good Morning VKB Residents,

Protect yourself from all infectious disease by using the precautions as outlined in this FDOH General Prevention flyer. Tip of the day: get adequate sleep and eat well-balanced meals.

Village Information:

* Construction Sites: Out of 82 active open construction sites in the Village 58 voluntarily stopped activity-that’s about 70%.

* Positive Cases on the Key? As of this morning the official state health authority Florida Department of Health (FDOH) report indicates 18 positive COVID-19 cases on the Key. Data in this report are provisional and subject to change. We do not receive personal information about infected residents from the Department of Health. Click here for the latest FDOH data.

* See Something, Say Something: The Key Biscayne Police Department has been doing a commendable job, firmly but professionally enforcing Emergency Orders. Strict rules are in place to help preserve life and curtail the spread of COVID-19. These rules apply to EVERYONE, whether on public or private property, in a home or apartment. If you see someone breaking the rules, please report it to KBPD by calling (305) 365-5555. If it is an emergency, call 911. Failure to follow Emergency Orders puts us ALL at greater risk.

* Testing Sites: The Key Biscayne Fire Department is not offering COVID-19 testing. We recognize a lot of residents do not understand why the Village is not doing testing. In addition to looking into the feasibility of whether the Village could establish a testing site for COVID-19, one important fact we all need to keep in mind is there is a shortage of testing kits. To learn more about current testing locations in South Florida, please visit Miami-Dade County COVID-19 webpage.

Miami-Dade County and State of Florida Information + Additional Sources:

* Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 13-20 orders all essential businesses currently open, including construction sites, to take reasonable efforts to comply with CDC guidance and ensure customers and employees maintain appropriate social distancing.

* Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 14-20

orders all laws, statutes, codes and regulations relating to County employees performing building code functions are suspended, including, but not limited to, the review of plans, issuance of permits, performance of inspections and issuance of certificates of occupancy and completion and temporary certificates of occupancy in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. The Village of Key Biscayne is looking into what this means for our Building Zoning and Planning Department and Key Biscayne residents.

* Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-86, directing all persons who enter the State of Florida from an area with substantial community spread, to include the State of Louisiana, inclusive of those entering the State of Florida by roadways, to isolate or quarantine for a period of 14 days from the time of entry into the State of Florida or the duration of the person’s presence in the State of Florida, whichever is shorter.

* Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-87, ordering all parties engaged in rental of vacation rental properties to suspend vacation rental operations. Vacation rentals are prohibited from making new reservations or bookings and shall not accept new guests for check-in for the duration of this order.

Thank you for reading the Village’s morning update and keeping yourself informed.
